Studying at home, taking notes

Case Study: Learning that lasts – Keys to a foundational home study curriculum

SITUATION

The client’s training materials had a number of issues. There had been a host of recent market entrants, so the Competitive Landscape module was outdated. There were no original source files to mine. And worst of all, there were no instructional design elements included, so training was not fully effective. The client knew that the market landscape module needed updating; we felt that their entire training curriculum needed help.

NEED

We needed to overhaul the current training materials, updating content and incorporating instructional design to provide field representatives with the knowledge they need to make an impact.

SOLUTION

We began with a thorough analysis of the market landscape—then applied it to revising the module content. Looking more broadly, we then considered the format, integrating adult-learning principles and instructional design elements that bring the content to life for the reps. Based on the success of the Competitive Landscape module, we rewrote the entire home study curriculum, including executive summaries and training decks, workbooks, and assessments.

RESULT

The client—and their field force—valued the depth of understanding that the field acquired from these redesigned materials, materials that were both engaging and grounded in adult learning principles, for a lasting learning experience.
